Green Spaces
Green Spaces
When UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is completed, the amount of green space contained within it will be among the highest of any urban hospital in the United States. 16 separate gardens are included in our hospital project plans, including 5 rooftop gardens located throughout the hospital complex.
Each green roof and garden within our UCSF Women's Specialty Hospital at Mission Bay — such as our Women's View Garden — will feature a unique use and character, with a specific layout tailored to address patient needs and hospital requirements. Three rooftop gardens will be featured in our women’s hospital alone: two will provide gorgeous views for patients, while a third will be accessible as an outdoor oasis. Outdoor balconies and terraces will be integrated for patients, their families and staff to experience fresh air and sunlight from within every patient-care unit.
The design and innovation that went into our green space initiatives extends into the indoors of our women’s hospital as well. For example, unprecedented assessment has gone toward eliminating most known toxic elements from the materials in our patient rooms. In addition, 100% fresh outdoor air (rather than re-circulated air) will be delivered throughout the building.
