Introduction to UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay

Message from the CEO

Welcome to UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay.

When it opens in 2014, this children’s, women’s specialty, and cancer hospital complex will set a world-class standard for patient- and family-centered health care, safety, sustainability and translational medicine. It will speed the application of laboratory discoveries to the treatment of patients in the Bay Area and beyond, furthering UCSF’s mission of advancing health worldwide.

We are thrilled to announce that The Atlantic Philanthropies is supporting our bold endeavor with a $125 million challenge grant, requiring a 100-percent match to encourage support from other philanthropists. The gift was made by Charles F. Feeney, founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies, who is a dedicated philanthropist and longtime champion of UCSF. The foundation's tremendous generosity in these tough economic times is a powerful testament to UCSF’s position as a global leader in the fields of medicine and scientific research.

With this lead gift, UCSF has taken a big step towards our goal of creating a major integrated clinical and research campus at Mission Bay to complement the dynamic and growing facilities at our Parnassus Heights and Mount Zion locations. We hope you will visit us again to stay updated on our progress in making this goal a reality.
